If you own a Mazda Bongo, you already know how much character these vans have. The next question is how to turn that space into a camper layout that actually fits your life. Some people want a full side kitchen. Others prefer a wide, open area with a proper bed and room to relax.
That is why we designed our new ultra-wide Mazda Bongo rock-and-roll bed. It uses the full width of the van, provides safe, belted seating during the day, and converts into a generous sleeping space at night. Alongside this, we are developing a new rear conversion system to give Bongo owners even more choice, with a thoroughly tested setup that works from day one.

Why We Developed An Ultra-Wide Mazda Bongo Rock And Roll Bed
We speak to a lot of Mazda Bongo owners who do not want a fixed kitchen running down the side of the van. They might cook outside, use a portable hob, or prefer to eat out on their travels. What they keep asking for is comfort, space and an excellent sleep at the end of the day.
The standard narrow bed layout does not always deliver that feeling. So we went back to the drawing board and designed a Mazda Bongo rock-and-roll bed that runs the full width of the van.
The goal was simple. Create a bed that feels like a proper base for a good night’s sleep while still working as safe seating when the van is on the road.

Full Width Design With Belted Seating For Three
Our in-house Mazda Bongo rock-and-roll bed is built across the full width of the rear. During the day, it provides three belted seats for adults. So you can travel with the family, friends or a mix of both and know that everyone is secure.
When you arrive at your campsite, the mechanism folds down into a full-width bed. The sleeping space accommodates three to four adults, depending on how cosy you want to be. There is no narrow section against the side of the van. You get an even, supported sleeping area that feels solid and comfortable.
The bed is designed to be simple to use. It takes just a few moments to convert between seat and bed. That matters when the weather is wet, or you arrive late in the evening and want to get settled.
Underneath, we build in large storage compartments, so bedding, bags and camping gear all have a home. That keeps the living area tidy and means you are not constantly moving piles of kit to make the bed.

Safety, Testing And Peace Of Mind
Comfort is only half the story. When you are carrying friends and family, safety has to come first.
Our Mazda Bongo rock-and-roll bed has been designed and tested to withstand the real stresses of road use. The frame is built from quality materials, securely fixed to the van’s structure and fitted with proper seat belts for all three seating positions.
We test the mechanism, fixings, and belt mounts as part of each conversion. Every installation follows the same process, so you are not relying on a one-off design or a guess at what might work.
What this really means is that you can enjoy the extra space and comfort without worrying about what is happening underneath the cushions. The safety aspect has been thought through and built in.

New Rear Conversion Options Currently In Development
Not every Bongo owner wants the same layout. Some want maximum bed width. Others want more storage and a simple, compact cooking area. We want our customers to have real choice while still benefiting from thoroughly tested designs.
That is why we are currently developing a new rear conversion system to work alongside the ultra-wide Mazda Bongo rock-and-roll bed. The idea is to keep the full-width bed but introduce a flexible rear module that can provide storage, utilities, or light cooking without losing the van’s open feel.
We are taking our time with this development work because we want to get it right. Even though we have not yet completed many of these rear conversions, the goal is clear. When it is ready, you will have an option that has been properly designed, test-fitted and refined, rather than something improvised.
We plan to offer different rear layouts so you can choose the balance that suits you. For example, more storage and a simple worktop, or more open space with clever hidden compartments. Each option will go through the same testing and installation checks as the bed system itself.
Who The Ultra Wide Bed And Rear Conversion Options Are For
This style of Mazda Bongo rock and roll bed and rear conversion is ideal if:
- You value a comfortable, spacious sleeping area
- You often travel with three people in the back and need seat belts for everyone
- You prefer outdoor or flexible cooking options rather than a fixed side kitchen
- You want a camper interior that feels more like a lounge and less like a corridor
It is also a great fit if you want a conversion that has been thought about and tested before you ever step inside it. Instead of piecing together parts and hoping they work, you get a complete setup designed to function as a whole.
If you have seen our latest Mazda Bongo campervan for sale with the ultra-wide bed, you have already seen this system in action. It gives a real sense of space and comfort that photos only partially capture.
