Your Van Your Way Mazda Bongo In Metallic Green

Some people want every possible gadget in their camper. Others know they will never use half of it and would rather have space, simplicity and a layout that fits how they actually travel. This Your Van Your Way Mazda Bongo started as a fresh import from Japan and has been turned into a clean, storage-focused camper with a one-off metallic green finish on the lower half, roof and key accents.

The result is a van that feels calm and uncluttered inside, with a colour scheme outside that you will spot instantly in any car park or campsite.

Fresh Import, Ready For A New Life

Every Your Van Your Way Mazda Bongo build starts with the same idea. Get the foundation right first. For this project, we sourced a fresh Japanese import in excellent condition, with straight panels and a clean underside. The van arrived with around 120,000 kilometres on the clock, which is still very healthy for a well-maintained Bongo.

Once it landed here, it went through our usual checks, servicing and preparation. Only then did we start shaping it into the particular camper the owner had in mind.

The Brief: Maximum Storage, No Fixed Kitchen

When we sat down with the owner, one priority stood out immediately. Storage. They wanted a Mazda Bongo that could carry all their gear without feeling cramped or busy inside.

That meant making a deliberate choice to skip some of the usual fixtures. There is no built-in hob or sink in this Your Van Your Way Mazda Bongo. The customer prefers cooking outdoors or using portable equipment when needed, which suits their travel far better than a fixed kitchen they would hardly ever use.

By leaving out the hob and sink, we freed up a surprising amount of space. Cupboards could be deeper, storage areas could be wider, and the whole side unit could be designed around real-world kit instead of plumbing. Everything revolves around practical load space rather than a row of appliances.

Clean, Open Interior With Smart Storage

Even without a fixed kitchen, this van still had to work as a comfortable camper.

We built a slim side unit with storage in mind first. Shelves, lockers and compartments are sized for real items like camping chairs, stoves, bedding and personal bags. Everything can be tucked away safely instead of sliding around the floor as soon as you set off.

A rock-and-roll bed completes the rear, providing proper seating on the road and a supportive sleeping area at night. With no hob or sink cutting into the space, the bed area feels wide and relaxed. You can move around freely, lay out your bags, and still have room to sit comfortably.

We kept the electrical side functional but straightforward. There is practical lighting, power provision and USB charging so phones and small devices stay topped up. The overall feel is more like a quiet cabin than a gadget-filled showroom, which is precisely what the owner wanted.

Metallic Green Paintwork On Lower Half, Roof, and Accents

Outside, this Your Van Your Way Mazda Bongo really stands out.

The customer chose a one-off metallic green for the lower half of the van, the roof and key accents, including the spoilers and details that shape the silhouette. It is fresh and modern without being overly loud. On cloudy days, the green looks soft and subtle. In bright sunshine, the metallic flake wakes up and the colour shows real depth.

We carried out all the usual body preparation before painting. Panels were flattened, minor imperfections corrected, and everything carefully masked. The metallic green was applied in stages for an even finish, then protected with a clear coat to keep the gloss and make cleaning easy.

The two-tone look, with the metallic green wrapping the lower body and roof, gives the van a distinct character. It hints at coastal drives, forest stays and relaxed weekends away, but still looks smart enough for day-to-day use outside the house.

Day To Day Life With This Your Van Your Way Build

On the road, this Mazda Bongo is as easy to live with as you would expect. The fresh import base, combined with proper preparation, gives a solid, tidy driving feel.

Inside, the lack of fixed kitchen gear makes it incredibly flexible. Bikes, paddleboards, large storage boxes, and camping kits can all be loaded without fighting over units that aren’t needed for every trip. On site, the owner can set up a portable stove or outdoor kitchen where it makes sense, then pack it away to get that open living space back.

When it is time to sleep, the bed folds out quickly, and the storage layout means everything already has a home. Fewer built-in systems means fewer things to manage or worry about. That simplicity is the whole point of this Your Van Your Way Mazda Bongo.

What This Build Says About Your Van Your Way

This project sums up the Your Van Your Way idea perfectly. It is not a standard template that everyone gets given. It is a conversation about how you use your van and what genuinely matters to you.

In this case, the owner valued storage, simplicity and a unique colour scheme more than having a full fixed kitchen. The metallic green paintwork on the lower half, roof and accents turned a tidy import into something personal. The interior layout supports their style of travel instead of forcing them into a one-size-fits-all design.

If you want every comfort and built-in gadget, we can build that. If you would rather keep things open and focus on space, we can do that too. Your Van Your Way Mazda Bongo really does mean your choices, your layout and your finish.

Thinking About Your Own Custom Bongo Build

If this metallic green Mazda Bongo has sparked ideas for your own build, we would be happy to talk things through.

You might want:

  • A similar storage-led layout with no fixed kitchen
  • A family-focused setup with extra belted seating
  • A full comfort spec with hob, sink and heating
  • A colour that is as subtle or as bold as you like

We can start with a fresh import, just as we did here, and shape the build around your plans. From there, we handle the mechanical preparation, conversion work, paint and aftercare in one place.
