When the Perfect Camper Doesn’t Exist… We Build It
One of the questions we’re asked most often is:
“What if none of your current vans is exactly what I’m looking for?”
The answer is simple.
We’ll build it.
That is exactly what happened with this Mazda Bongo.
The customer came to us with a budget, a clear vision and a list of everything they wanted from their dream camper. They had looked through our current stock, but although there were some fantastic vans available, none of them ticked every box.
Rather than asking them to compromise, we went looking for the right foundation.
Starting with the Right Bongo
Finding the right base vehicle is one of the most important parts of any custom build.
Fortunately, we already had the perfect candidate.
A Mk1 Mazda Bongo 2.5 V6 petrol that had been taken in part exchange.
It had covered just 33,000 miles from new, had an immaculate chassis that had never been welded, and was mechanically an outstanding example.
It wasn’t quite perfect cosmetically.
But that’s exactly where we came in.
Time to Bring the Vision to Life
Once the customer had chosen their base vehicle, the transformation began.
As part of our Silver Restoration Package, the van received two brand new genuine Mazda rear wheel arches before the bodywork was prepared for paint.
Rather than choosing something off the shelf, the customer created their own colour combination.
The upper half remained in its original Mazda Metallic Green.
The lower half was refinished in Metallic Silver.
The result perfectly balanced classic Mazda styling with a fresh, modern appearance.
Every Detail Matters
The transformation wasn’t just about changing the colour.
We also refurbished the front grille and headlamps before colour coding the mirrors and rear spoiler to complete the new look.
Small details like these are often overlooked, but together they make an enormous difference to the finished camper.
The result looked factory fresh while remaining completely unique to its owner.
A Camper Ready for Adventure
Inside, the van already featured a practical side conversion, making it the ideal companion for weekends away and longer touring holidays.
The conversion includes:
- Rock and roll bed
- Twin gas hob
- Sink and tap
- Water storage tanks
- Practical storage throughout
Simple, functional and built for making memories.
Fully Prepared Before Handover
Before handing over the keys, we completed our full preparation programme.
This included:
- Engine service
- Gearbox service
- Differential service
- Fresh underseal treatment
- New brakes
- New tyres
- Fresh 12-month MOT with no advisories
We also fitted:
- New Mazda decals
- New wheel trims
- Mazda Bongo Auto Centre branded floor mats
The result was a camper that looked as good underneath as it did on the outside.
Built Around the Customer, Not the Stock List
This is the part we really want people to remember.
The customer didn’t buy this Bongo because it happened to be sitting on our forecourt.
They bought it because we built it around their requirements.
Their budget.
Their colour choice.
Their vision.
Their dream camper.
That approach is something we’re incredibly proud of.
