They envisioned a full transformation, combining mechanical strength, standout styling, and all-season functionality. What they got was a fully restored, road-ready Bongo with camper credentials and long-term protection.
Custom Two-Tone Respray with New Rear Arches
Right from the start, the vision was clear. This Bongo needed a bold new look. The customer chose a striking metallic blue for the lower half of the van, while the upper section received a white finish with a subtle pearl blue tint. Together, they created a clean, contemporary look that stayed true to the Bongo’s classic charm.
To ensure that the van didn’t just look good but was also structurally solid, we replaced the rear wheel arches with genuine new panels. This small change makes a big difference, removing rust-prone areas and giving the van a solid foundation for the road ahead.
Chassis Underseal and Interior Trim Rejuvenation
Once the paintwork was complete, we turned our attention to the underside. The entire chassis was rubbed down and sealed with protective underseal. This crucial step guards the Bongo against corrosion and road salt, especially during winter months.
Meanwhile, we revived the trim inside the cab. The carpets were deep-cleaned, and we fully refurbished the black plastic trims to restore that factory-fresh look. Although these may seem like minor updates, they significantly improve the feel and value of the interior.
Engine Service and Cooling System Upgrades
Mechanically, this van needed a full refresh. We serviced the engine and gearbox thoroughly. That included an oil change, new filters, and fresh fluids. Every part of the drivetrain was inspected to ensure it performed smoothly.
The cooling system received special attention. We installed a new thermostat and temperature switches, flushed the system, and filled it with premium antifreeze. To go even further, we added a coolant auto bleed kit and a coolant alarm. These upgrades prevent future overheating and give early warnings if coolant levels drop — a must-have for any diesel Bongo.
Compact Rear Camper Conversion with Modern Amenities
This van’s rear was transformed into a compact and practical camper layout. The customer opted for a streamlined setup with all the essentials: a rear conversion pod, 240V hook-up system, and a leisure battery powered by a split-charge relay. We also installed rear USB charging points to keep devices powered while off-grid.
For lighting, we added low-draw 12V LEDs throughout the living space, making the rear usable at night while conserving battery life. The design was minimal but effective — perfect for weekend escapes or spontaneous wild camping trips.
Diesel Night Heater for All-Season Comfort
To make this Bongo adventure-ready in any season, we fitted an 8kW diesel night heater. Positioned discreetly within the living space, it provides reliable warmth without the need for mains hookup. Whether you’re parked up in the Highlands or camping in autumn chill, this upgrade ensures comfort and usability all year round.
The heater runs off the vehicle’s diesel tank but uses minimal fuel, making it perfect for extended off-grid trips. It was the finishing touch that took this build from summer camper to genuine four-season tourer.
