This Bongo came to Mazda Bongo Auto Centre for our Mazda Bongo Bronze Restoration package, but it also needed important structural work underneath. The rear arches needed replacing, the sills required serious attention on both sides, and the offside rear chassis leg had to be replaced.
Rather than patching around the problem, the van received the right work in the right areas. It left with new rear wheel arches, full inner and outer sill repairs on both sides, a new front crossmember, fresh underseal, a service and 12 months MOT.
The final finish made it stand out for all the right reasons: a bottom-half respray in orange pearlescent flip paint, paired with colour-coded bumpers for a clean, confident look.
Arriving for a Bronze Restoration Package
Our Bronze Restoration Package is designed for Mazda Bongos that need a strong bodywork refresh while keeping the project focused.
For this van, that meant replacing the rear wheel arches and repainting the lower half of the bodywork. The rear arches are one of the most common corrosion areas on a Mazda Bongo, so replacing them properly is a key part of giving the vehicle a much stronger future.
However, once a Bongo is in the workshop, the underside often tells its own story. That was the case here. Alongside the visible bodywork, this van needed deeper structural repairs before the cosmetic finish could do it justice.
New Rear Wheel Arches and Lower Body Preparation
The rear wheel arches were replaced as part of the Bronze package.
Good arch replacement is about more than making the outside of the van look tidy. The repair needs to be shaped, fitted and finished properly so the new panels sit correctly and blend cleanly into the rest of the bodywork.
Once the new rear arches were in place, the lower body was prepared for paint. This stage is where the final result starts to take shape, but it only works when the repair work underneath has been completed correctly first.
A smart paint finish should sit on top of solid preparation. That is why the structural repairs were such an important part of this build.
Full Inner and Outer Sill Repairs on Both Sides
This Mazda Bongo needed full inner and outer sill work on both sides.
The sills are a critical part of the vehicle’s structure, so they must be treated with proper care. Corrosion in this area can affect MOT safety, strength and long-term confidence in the van.
Both sides were repaired properly, giving the Bongo a much stronger foundation before the paint and finishing work began. This is the type of work that is not always obvious once the van is completed, but it is some of the most important work we do.

Offside Rear Chassis Leg Replacement
Alongside the sill work, the offside rear chassis leg was replaced.

Replacing the affected chassis section meant the repair could be completed with strength and longevity in mind.

Orange Pearlescent Flip Paint and Colour-Coded Bumpers
With the welding and preparation complete, the van was finished with a bottom-half respray in orange pearlescent flip paint.
This gives the Bongo a bold, eye-catching finish that changes character as the light hits it. It is the kind of colour that suits a Mazda Bongo perfectly, full of personality without losing the clean shape of the van.
The bumpers were colour coded to match, tying the whole lower section together and giving the finished van a much sharper appearance.
The result is a Bongo that looks bright, fresh and individual, while still having serious structural work beneath the surface.
Serviced, MOT’d and Ready for the Road
To complete the work, the van was serviced and supplied with 12 months MOT.
That final stage matters because it brings the whole project together. The restoration work gave the body and structure a stronger future, while the service and MOT helped prepare the van for use again.
