Mazda Bongo Restoration With the Mechanical Work Done Properly

A fresh finish can transform the look of a Mazda Bongo. However, the work beneath the surface is what gives an owner the confidence to enjoy it for years to come.

This Bongo came to Mazda Bongo Auto Centre for a Bronze Package restoration, but the project began with important mechanical preparation. From major timing belt work and a full service to cooling-system components and suspension renewal, the aim was to give this van a dependable foundation before completing its exterior transformation.

Timing Belt, Oil Seals and Engine Preparation

The engine received a thorough programme of preventative maintenance.

We fitted a full timing belt kit, new oil seals and a new auxiliary belt. The rocker cover gasket was also replaced, helping ensure the engine was properly prepared and sealed.

These are essential jobs to carry out at the right time. A timing belt is one of the most important service items on a Mazda Bongo, and replacing related components while access is available is a sensible way to protect the vehicle’s future.

The van also received a full service, giving the owner a strong maintenance starting point once the restoration was complete.

New Temperature Sensors for Cooling-System Confidence

Mazda Bongo owners understand the importance of looking after the cooling system.

As part of this restoration, we fitted new temperature sensors. These components help the vehicle monitor operating temperatures correctly and are a worthwhile addition when carrying out larger engine preparation work.

By renewing key serviceable parts during the project, we could return the Bongo not only looking refreshed, but better prepared for the journeys ahead.

The suspension also received attention, with new D bushes and drop links fitted.

These parts play an important role in how the vehicle feels on the road. When they become worn, a Bongo can feel less settled and may develop unwanted movement or knocking through the suspension.

Replacing them helps restore a more controlled, comfortable driving experience. It is a practical improvement that the owner can appreciate every time they drive their van.

New Rear Wheel Arches

With the mechanical work complete, attention turned to the bodywork.

New rear wheel arches were fitted as part of the Bronze Package restoration. Wheel arches are an important area to inspect on any Mazda Bongo, as corrosion can develop around the lower body over time.

Replacing damaged or deteriorated sections properly gives the vehicle a stronger base for paint preparation and helps protect the overall finish for the future.

Careful Paint Preparation

Good paintwork relies on the preparation beneath it.

Before the respray, the lower bodywork was carefully prepared to create a clean, even surface. This stage is where the bodywork repairs, replacement wheel arches and surrounding panels are brought together properly.

Taking the time to prepare the vehicle correctly helps ensure the final finish looks smart, consistent and built to last.

A Bronze Package Finished in Sunburst Orange Metallic

The lower half of the Bongo was then resprayed in Sunburst Orange metallic, giving the van a bright, distinctive new appearance.

Colour-coded wing mirrors, a refreshed grille and new Mazda decals completed the exterior details. The result is a Bongo that looks fresh and individual, while still retaining the practical character its owner knows and loves.

Complimentary floor mats were also included as a finishing touch for collection day.

More Than a Cosmetic Transformation

This Mazda Bongo restoration was about far more than a change of colour.

The full timing belt kit, oil seals, rocker cover gasket, auxiliary belt, service, temperature sensors, D bushes and drop links gave the van important mechanical attention. New rear wheel arches and careful paint preparation then created the right foundation for the Bronze Package finish.

It is the combination of these jobs that makes a restoration worthwhile. The owner leaves with a Bongo that looks renewed, feels better prepared and is ready to create more memories on the road.
