When Nobody Else Would Take the Job On
This Mazda Bongo Bronze restoration package story started with frustration.
The owner had been trying to find someone willing to take on the project locally. Multiple garages had seen the van, including a local Bongo specialist, but nobody wanted the work.
The corrosion repairs, restoration work and transformation needed were simply more than they were prepared to tackle.
Rather than give up on the van, the owner made a decision that says everything about how much it meant to them.
They drove four hours to bring it to us.
A Bronze Restoration That Became Much More
The original plan was straightforward.
The van came in for our Bronze Mazda Bongo Restoration Package, which included:
- New outer wheel arches
- Lower half restoration and repaint
- Bodywork correction across the lower sections
- Repainting bumpers and trims
However, as is often the case with older Bongos, once we started stripping things down properly, more issues revealed themselves underneath.
Hidden Corrosion Behind the Side Skirts
When we removed the side skirts, we discovered corrosion hidden underneath that could not simply be ignored.
Both rear outer sections required replacement, and the corroded sections behind the skirts needed to be repaired properly before any paintwork could begin.
This is exactly why proper restoration work matters.
What looks acceptable on the surface often hides much bigger problems underneath, and unless those issues are addressed correctly, they only get worse.
Because of this, we carried out the repairs properly before proceeding with the cosmetic transformation.
Finished in a Colour That Completely Changed the Van
Once the structural and bodywork repairs were complete, it was time for the exciting part.
The customer chose a bright red finish for the lower half respray, giving the van a completely different personality from when it arrived.
The transformation was dramatic.
The lower half, bumpers, wing mirrors, roof spoiler, and grille were all colour-coded to match, creating a far cleaner and more modern overall look.
To make the front end stand out even further, we refinished the grille badge in black while keeping the grille inserts red, helping the details pop against the fresh paintwork.
The result completely changed the character of the van.
Finishing Touches That Make the Difference
Once the paintwork was complete, we focused on the details that bring the whole build together.
The van received:
- Complimentary Mazda Bongo Auto Centre number plates
- New Mazda decals on the rear
- Mazda Bongo Auto Centre branded front floor mats
- Fresh underseal around the wheel arches and other areas
Finally, the vehicle was fully flat machine-polished to enhance the finish and bring maximum depth and shine out of the fresh paintwork.
When completed, the difference was incredible.
More Than Just a Cosmetic Transformation
This Mazda Bongo Bronze restoration package was about far more than making the van look good.
It was about giving the owner confidence in a van that other garages had turned away. It was about repairing the issues properly and proving that the van still had a future worth investing in.
Most importantly, it showed exactly why people travel long distances to bring their Bongos to us.
Worth the Four-Hour Drive
By the end of the project, the owner’s reaction said everything.
What arrived as a tired van with hidden corrosion and rejected repair work left looking completely transformed.
Bright, fresh, structurally repaired and restored properly, it now looked like a van ready for many more years of adventures.
