A Mazda Bongo Rescue Transformation Done Properly
This Mazda Bongo rescue restoration began with a van that looked beyond saving.
When it arrived, the rear wheel arches were mostly adhesive and filler. There were holes in the roof. Corrosion had spread across multiple structural areas. At first glance, it felt like the end of the road for this Bongo.
However, instead of giving up, we committed to a full Silver restoration and complete transformation.
Arrival In A Sorry State
The van did not need minor repairs. It needed saving.
The wheel arches had been patched poorly. Rust had been disguised rather than removed. Meanwhile, water had entered through roof damage, and corrosion had crept into the sills.
Therefore, we stripped everything back and assessed the true condition. Once we exposed the metal underneath, we created a plan to rebuild it properly.
Full Silver Restoration Package
Because this van required more than surface treatment, we carried out our full Silver restoration package.
This included:
- New inner and outer rear wheel arches
- Extensive sill repairs
- Structural welding where required
- Complete correction of previous poor repairs
In addition, we addressed further corrosion along the sills and surrounding panels. Rather than patching over issues, we removed affected sections and rebuilt them properly.
As a result, the van is left structurally solid and ready for many more years on the road.
Porsche Riviera Blue And Metallic Silver Respray
Once the body was strong again, we turned to aesthetics.
The lower half was finished in Porsche Riviera Blue. This vibrant shade gives the van real presence. Meanwhile, the top half was painted metallic silver to create contrast and balance.
We also refurbished the alloy wheels in gloss black. In addition, we colour-coded the wing mirrors, bumpers, grille and boot spoiler to match the new finish. Finally, fresh Mazda decals completed the exterior.
The transformation is dramatic. Yet it still respects the Bongo’s character.
Brand New Pop Top Installation
To turn this van into a true camper, we fitted a brand new pop-top roof.
The new roof includes a lift-up bed supported by gas struts. Consequently, the sleeping capacity increases instantly. Moreover, it creates valuable standing room inside the van.
Combined with the fresh paintwork, the new pop top completely modernises the vehicle.
Slimline Rear Conversion With Premium Finish
With the structure restored and exterior complete, we installed one of our slimline rear conversions.
This included:
- Rock and roll bed
- Passenger swivel seat
- Black tamber doors
- Black honeycomb seats with grey piping
In addition, the van received:
- 8kw diesel night heater
- 140 amp solar panel with MPPT fast charge controller
- 240v hook up
- Under-seat fridge freezer
- LED lighting throughout
- And much more!
Because of this setup, the van is now fully capable of off-grid adventures.
