At Mazda Bongo Auto Centre Ltd, we take pride in making sure every Bongo that comes through our doors gets the care and attention it deserves. This one needed extensive structural work, mechanical repairs, and a fresh new look—so our expert team got to work, ensuring it left our workshop stronger, safer, and looking fantastic.
Here’s a breakdown of what we did and why it was necessary.

Structural Repairs & Welding – Restoring Strength
One of the biggest issues with older Mazda Bongos is rust. These vehicles weren’t originally built for the UK climate, and over time, moisture and road salt take their toll. Rusted-out sills, wheel arches, and chassis components not only weaken the structure but also lead to MOT failures and potential safety hazards.
✅ Full inner & outer sills replaced (both sides) – The sills provide crucial strength to the lower part of the van. Any rust here compromises rigidity, so we cut out the corroded sections and welded in fresh steel, ensuring this Bongo has a solid foundation for years to come.
✅ Replaced floor sections – The floor had areas of severe corrosion, so we removed the damaged metal and replaced it, preventing further deterioration and ensuring the structure remained sound.
✅ Inner & outer rear wheel arches replaced – Wheel arches often collect dirt and moisture, leading to rust. Instead of patching small sections, we went all in—cutting away the damaged areas and welding in new arches for a factory-fresh look.
✅ Chassis tub replacements (both sides) – The chassis is the backbone of the van, and once it starts to weaken, it can affect stability and handling. We reinforced the affected areas, bringing this Bongo back up to spec.
✅ Cross-member corners fully replaced – These components support the rear structure and suspension. Corrosion here can lead to misalignment and even failure of key suspension parts, so we ensured a full, proper replacement.
✅ Roof pillar repairs (front & rear) – A strong roof structure is essential, so we addressed rust issues at both the front and rear pillars to maintain overall integrity.

Mechanical Repairs – Keeping It Running Smoothly
A solid body is great, but mechanical reliability is just as important. This Bongo had a few dashboard warnings and worn-out components that needed addressing before it could be truly roadworthy.
New front brakes – The braking system had seen better days, with worn discs and pads reducing stopping power. We replaced them to restore safe and responsive braking.
Glow plug light fixed – A glow plug warning light can indicate issues with the pre-heating system, which is crucial for smooth cold starts. We diagnosed the fault and ensured it was working perfectly again.
Loose battery secured – A shifting battery isn’t just an annoyance; it’s a real hazard. We properly secured it to prevent electrical issues and potential damage.
Engine & coolant service – Regular servicing extends the life of a van and prevents costly breakdowns. We replaced the oil and filters, flushed the cooling system, and made sure everything was in top condition.
New exhaust back box & fitting kit – The exhaust system was showing its age, affecting performance and emissions. We installed a fresh back box to keep the van running efficiently and passing emissions tests.
MOT inspection & certification – With all the major repairs completed, we carried out an MOT inspection to ensure the van met UK road safety standards.

Full Respray & Custom Styling – Bringing It Back to Life
With all the welding and mechanical work completed, it was time to bring this Bongo’s exterior back to life. A fresh coat of paint doesn’t just make it look good—it also adds protection against future corrosion and wear.
Full respray in crisp white – The original paintwork had faded over time, so we gave it a complete respray in a classic white finish for a clean, modern look.
Black styling enhancements – To add some contrast, we painted the:
Boot spoiler
Boot trim
Side mirrors
Refurbished black alloy wheels – The original wheels were tired, so we fully refurbished them in gloss black, giving this Bongo a sleek, updated finish.

Final Touches – Ensuring Perfection
A proper restoration isn’t just about big repairs—it’s about the small details that make a van enjoyable to own and drive.
✔ Fitted two brand-new tyres – The existing tyres were worn down, so we replaced them with fresh, high-quality tyres for better grip and longevity.
✔ 15-inch refurbished alloy wheels installed – These enhance both the style and ride quality of the van.
✔ Checked & adjusted door locks – Ensuring smooth operation and security.
