A Mazda Bongo We Know, Built by Us and Now Back for Its Next Owner
Some used Mazda Bongos come with very little known history.
This one is different.
This 2004 Mazda Bongo 2.0 Petrol Aero Facelift was originally imported from Japan in 2022 before coming to Mazda Bongo Auto Centre. We prepared, customised and sold the van to its previous owner around two years ago, including choosing its distinctive one-off Flip Pearl Bronze colour scheme.
Now back with us, we have the advantage of knowing the van, knowing the work that has gone into it and knowing how it has performed.
With approximately 168,000 kilometres, around 104,000 miles, an original unwelded chassis, extensive mechanical preparation, an electronic ultra-high pop top, solar power and a well-equipped side conversion, this is a Bongo that is ready to head back out on the road.
One-Off Flip Pearl Bronze Paintwork
This is certainly not a Bongo that disappears into a car park.
When we originally prepared the van, we chose a one-off Flip Pearl Bronze finish to give it a completely individual appearance.
The colour changes character depending on the light, with the pearl effect becoming particularly noticeable when the sunshine catches the bodywork.
To create a properly finished appearance, we also colour coded the:
- Front and rear bumpers
- Honeycomb grille
- Side mirrors
- Pop top roof
Combined with the Aero body styling, the result is a distinctive campervan that still looks modern more than 20 years after it was originally manufactured.
Desirable Aero Facelift Model
Being the later Aero Facelift model, this Bongo benefits from some of the most desirable factory styling features.
These include:
- Xenon headlights
- Honeycomb front grilles
- Aero exterior styling
- Colour coded exterior
- Air conditioning
It is powered by Mazda’s 2.0-litre petrol engine, providing a straightforward petrol alternative to the diesel and V6 models.
An Original Chassis That Has Never Been Welded
For us, what is underneath a Mazda Bongo is every bit as important as what you can see on the outside.
This particular van retains its original chassis and has never been welded.
That is becoming an increasingly important consideration when buying a Mazda Bongo of this age.
The underside has also received a full underseal treatment, helping protect the chassis from the harsher conditions associated with year-round use on UK roads.
This gives the next owner an excellent foundation for years of future adventures.
Electronic Ultra-High Pop Top With Panoramic Roof
One of the standout features of this camper is its electronic ultra-high pop top.
Rather than a basic manual roof, the electronic system makes raising the roof quick and convenient, dramatically increasing the available space inside the camper when parked up.
The pop top also features a panoramic roof design, helping bring additional light into the upper section and creating a much more open feeling inside.
It is a particularly useful feature for longer trips, where the additional headroom and sleeping space can completely transform the way the Bongo is used.
Fully Equipped Side Conversion
Inside is a well-designed side conversion that remains in very good condition.
The layout makes excellent use of the Bongo’s compact dimensions while still providing the equipment needed for weekends away and longer touring holidays.
The conversion includes:
- Rock and roll bed
- Twin-burner gas hob
- Sink and tap
- Fresh water storage tanks
- Large storage units
- Twin roof lockers
- Under-seat storage
- Additional cupboard storage
- Storage within the rear seating
- 240V electric hook-up
- Four 240V power sockets
- 240V inverter
- Multiple USB charging points
- 12V interior lighting
There is an impressive amount of usable storage throughout the camper, allowing equipment, clothing and everyday camping essentials to be kept organised without compromising the main living space.
Bentley-Style Diamond Stitched Interior
The interior was designed to complement the unusual exterior rather than compete with it.
All of the seating has been professionally retrimmed in white Bentley-style diamond stitched upholstery with contrasting black piping.
The matching door cards continue the same theme throughout the cabin.
We have also refurbished the carpets and side trims, while the remaining door cards and interior areas have been finished in anthracite grey stretch material.
The combination of white diamond stitching, black detailing and anthracite trim gives the camper a much warmer and more premium appearance than a standard Bongo interior.
Solar Power and Touring Electrics
For camping away from a traditional electric hook-up, the Bongo is fitted with a solar panel and fast-charge controller.
This helps maintain the leisure battery and supports the camper’s electrical equipment while travelling or camping off grid.
A new leisure battery was fitted in April 2026 at 166,430 kilometres, further improving the touring setup.
Combined with the 240V hook-up, inverter, multiple mains sockets, USB charging points and 12V lighting, the electrical system gives plenty of flexibility whether staying on a campsite or travelling further afield.
Multimedia, Reversing Camera and Twin Dash Cams
The dashboard has also been upgraded for modern everyday driving.
A multimedia system has been installed together with a reversing camera, making parking and manoeuvring the Bongo considerably easier.
The van also has front and rear dash cameras professionally wired in, meaning there are no loose charging cables or temporary installations cluttering the cabin.
Extensive Mechanical Preparation
This Bongo has benefited from considerable mechanical maintenance and preventative work.
Preparation and maintenance includes:
- Full timing belt kit
- Coolant temperature sensors replaced
- New thermostat
- Engine servicing
- Gearbox service
- Differential service
- Full underseal treatment
- New exhaust
- New leisure battery
- New tyres
- Tow bar fitted
Because we originally sold this van and it has now returned to us, this isn’t an unknown vehicle that has simply arrived on the forecourt.
We know this Bongo and know it to be a reliable van.
Excellent MOT History With No Advisories
The recent maintenance history further demonstrates how well the Bongo has been looked after.
In March 2025, four new tyres were fitted at approximately 164,700 kilometres.
On 25 September 2025, at 165,962 kilometres, the Bongo received an MOT and service and passed with no advisories.
A new leisure battery followed on 21 April 2026 at 166,430 kilometres.
Most recently, on 22 September 2026, the Bongo was presented for its latest MOT and once again passed with no advisories.
For a Mazda Bongo of this age, two consecutive clean MOTs with no advisories are certainly worth highlighting.
Refurbished 17-Inch Alloy Wheels and New Tyres
Completing the exterior is a set of 17-inch alloy wheels, which have been professionally refurbished.
These are paired with new tyres and work particularly well against the Flip Pearl Bronze paintwork and colour-coded Aero bodywork.
Together with the Xenon headlights and honeycomb grilles, they give the Bongo a smart, purposeful stance without losing its original Mazda character.
Ready to Tow
A tow bar has also been fitted, adding another useful option for the next owner.
Whether carrying bikes, using compatible touring accessories or towing within the vehicle’s permitted limits, it adds another level of practicality to an already versatile campervan.
A Bongo With a History We Actually Know
There is a major difference between buying an older campervan with an unknown past and buying one that has already been through our workshop and has been known to us for years.
We originally prepared and sold this Bongo.
We know the conversion.
We know the mechanical work.
We know the chassis.
And most importantly, we know the van has proven itself to be reliable.
With its original unwelded chassis, 2.0 petrol engine, Aero Facelift specification, electronic ultra-high panoramic pop top, solar charging system, Bentley-style interior and one-off Flip Pearl Bronze paintwork, it offers a specification that would be extremely expensive to recreate from scratch today.
12 Months Warranty Included
For additional peace of mind, this Mazda Bongo will be supplied with a 12-month warranty.
Combined with its September 2026 MOT with no advisories and extensive preparation history, the next owner can buy knowing that this is a campervan we are familiar with and happy to put our name behind.
Free pass on MOT the following year 2027 excluding brakes and tyres.
