Every So Often, a Project Comes Along That Changes Everything
Most customers visit The Mazda Bongo Auto Centre looking for a campervan.
Some arrive wanting a restoration.
Others are searching for a fresh import.
Every now and then, someone walks through our doors with a vision that goes far beyond anything sitting on our forecourt.
This was one of those projects.
The customer had spent months researching Mazda Bongos, reading reviews, comparing companies and deciding who they could trust with what would become their dream Custom Mazda Bongo build.
Eventually, they picked up the phone to us.
Not because they wanted one of our existing vans.
Because they wanted us to build something that simply didn’t exist.
The Search Began
The brief sounded simple.
Find a fresh import.
Make it an Aero model.
Ultra low mileage.
Immaculate condition.
The sort of Bongo most people never even get to see.
That search led us to something incredibly special.
A 2003 Mazda Bongo Aero.
Only 6,000 kilometres from new.
Around 4,000 miles.
Read that again.
Four thousand miles from new!
For a vehicle over twenty years old, it was almost unbelievable.
Graded between 4.5 and 5, the van was as close to showroom condition as it is realistically possible to find.
It wasn’t just low mileage.
It was the sort of Bongo enthusiasts spend years hoping to discover.
A Blank Canvas
When the van arrived, it looked exactly as it had left Japan.
Finished in white.
Beautifully preserved.
Almost untouched by time.
Many people would have left it exactly as it was.
Our customer had other ideas.
They wanted something completely unique.
A camper nobody else would own.
A Bongo that reflected their personality from every possible angle, a fully Custom Mazda Bongo build.
A Colour Nobody Could Ignore
The transformation started with the paintwork.
The customer chose a one-off pearlescent flip orange.
In normal light, it looks like a rich metallic orange.
As soon as the sunshine hits it, the pearlescent finish comes alive, changing the character of the van completely.
It is impossible to walk past without stopping for another look.
To complement the paintwork we finished:
- Pop top in satin black
- Front spoiler in black
- Rear spoiler in black
- Grille detailing in black
- Satin black Mazda badges
- Colour coded mirrors
- 18 inch alloy wheels powder coated black
- Brand new tyres
The contrast gives the camper an aggressive yet incredibly refined appearance.
Building the Interior Around the Exterior
Once the outside was complete, attention turned inside.
The customer wanted the cabin to feel just as special as the bodywork.
We completely reimagined the interior.
The seats were retrimmed in stunning Bentley-inspired orange double diamond stitching with matching orange piping.
The passenger swivel seat received the same treatment, ensuring the entire cabin flowed together perfectly.
Every door card and interior plastic panel was then covered in anthracite stretch fabric.
The result is warmer, quieter and dramatically more premium than the original interior.
Our Signature Conversion
At the heart of the build sits one of our signature ultra wide rock and roll beds.
Designed by Mazda Bongo Auto Centre, it provides exceptional comfort while making the very best use of the available space.
Beneath the bed sits an integrated fridge freezer.
To the side we installed one of our slimline gloss white kitchen units featuring:
- Twin gas hob
- Sink and tap
- Water storage
- Black tambour doors
- Twin roof lockers
The clean white cabinetry contrasts beautifully with the darker interior finishes.
Built for Touring Anywhere
The goal wasn’t simply to build a beautiful camper.
It needed to be capable of travelling almost anywhere.
The electrical system includes:
- Solar panel
- Large leisure battery
- 240V hook up
- Twin mains sockets
- Multiple USB charging points
- Rear reading lights
- LED ambient lighting
- 12V control panel
Whether you’re on a campsite or miles from civilisation, the camper is designed to keep everything running.
The fridge remains powered.
The lighting continues to work.
The leisure battery stays charged through the roof mounted solar panel.
This is genuine off-grid capability.

To make the camper enjoyable throughout the year we also fitted:

- Flyscreen ventilation panels
- Panoramic front opening
- Roof lighting
- Fiamma F45S black awning
- 8kW diesel night heater
- Electronic blinds
