Some people want every gadget and luxury in their camper. Others have a clearer idea. They know precisely how they travel, what they carry and what they do not need. This Your Van Your Way Mazda Bongo started with a fresh import from us and grew into a very personal build focused on space, simplicity, and a unique finish.
The van arrived from Japan with around 120,000 kilometres on the clock and in the clean, rust-free condition you expect from our imports. From there, the customer took the lead. Together, we created a Mazda Bongo that feels calm and uncluttered inside, backed by a one-off metallic mint-green paint job that looks incredible in daylight.

Starting Point: Fresh Import, Clean Slate
Every Your Van Your Way Mazda Bongo begins with the same core idea. Start from a solid base so the conversion work actually has something worth building on. This one was no different.
We sourced a fresh Japanese import in excellent condition, with a clean underside and straight bodywork. The mileage sat at roughly 120,000 kilometres, which is still very healthy for a well-maintained Bongo. After the usual inspection, servicing and preparation, we had the perfect blank canvas ready for a custom build that reflected the owner’s plans for the van.
Because everything starts from that solid base, we can focus our energy on tailoring the interior and exterior rather than fighting corrosion or old faults.
Design Brief: Maximum Storage, Minimal Clutter
When we sat down with the customer, one theme kept coming up. Storage. They wanted a Your Van Your Way Mazda Bongo that could carry a lot of gear while still feeling roomy inside.
They were not interested in a built-in hob or sink. They preferred the flexibility of cooking outside or using portable equipment when needed. They also decided to skip the diesel night heater and television. Those choices might sound unusual if you are used to seeing every option ticked, but they made perfect sense for the way this van will be used.
By removing some of the usual refinements from our standard conversion list, we created a large amount of space. Cupboards could be deeper, storage areas could be wider, and there was less visual clutter along the side of the van. Everything revolves around practical load space instead of a long row of appliances.
Custom Conversion Without The Usual Extras
Even without the hob, sink, diesel heater and TV, this Your Van Your Way Mazda Bongo still needed to work as a comfortable camper.
We built a slimline side unit designed around storage first. Shelves and lockers are sized for real items instead of being an afterthought. There is room for camping chairs, cooking equipment, bedding and personal kit, all tucked away rather than rolling around on the floor.
A comfortable rock-and-roll bed completes the rear, providing proper seating on the road and a supportive sleeping platform at night. With the appliances removed, the bed area feels more open and relaxed. You can move around easily, lay out bags and still have space to sit without feeling boxed in.
We retained key electrical features to keep the van practical on trips. Lighting, USB points and power provision are all in place, but the layout is deliberately clean. The result is a camper that feels more like a calm cabin than a gadget showroom.

One Off Metallic Mint Green Paintwork
The exterior is where this Your Van Your Way Mazda Bongo really stands apart.
Instead of a standard silver or a commonly seen camper shade, the customer chose a one-off metallic mint green. It is a colour that looks fresh and modern without shouting for attention. Under dull light, it appears soft and subtle. In bright sunshine, the metallic flake comes alive, and the mint tone really shows through.
We completed all preparation work before applying the new paint. Panels were flattened, minor imperfections corrected, and the surfaces carefully masked. The metallic mint green was then built up in stages for a deep, even finish, followed bya clear coat for gloss and protection.
The colour choice suits the van’s personality perfectly. It hints at beach trips, quiet forest campsites and relaxed weekends away, while still looking sharp parked outside the house during the week.
Living With A Your Van Your Way Mazda Bongo
What is this Mazda Bongo actually like to live with day to day?
First, it is easy to drive and park. That is true of most Bongos, but this one benefits from the usual fresh import feel and the care taken during preparation. Inside, the lack of fixed cooking gear makes the space incredibly flexible. You can load bikes, paddleboards or large storage boxes without fighting around a bulky kitchen.
On-site, the owner can set up a portable stove or outdoor cooking area whenever they want. When it is time to sleep, the bed folds out, and the storage layout means everything has its place. There are fewer things to remember and fewer systems to manage. That simplicity was precisely what the customer wanted from their Your Van Your Way Mazda Bongo build.
Why This Build Sums Up Your Van Your Way
This project is an excellent example of what Your Van Your Way is really about. It is not just a slogan on the website. It is a promise that we will listen to how you actually plan to use your Mazda Bongo and then build around that.
In this case, maximum storage and a clean, open interior mattered more than a list of gadgets. The one-off metallic mint green paintwork turned a tidy import into something entirely personal. Together, those choices created a camper that feels honest and individual, rather than another copy of a standard layout.
If you want a ready-built camper with everything fitted, we can do that. If you would rather strip things back and focus on space, we can do that as well. Your Van Your Way Mazda Bongo really does mean your choices, your layout and your finish.
