Bringing a Tired Interior Back to Life
This Mazda Bongo interior upgrade and underseal project started with a van that had clearly seen a lot of use. While it still had plenty of life left, the rear interior had become worn and tired, which took away from the overall driving and living experience.
However, beneath the surface, there was a solid base to work with. As a result, this project became less about repair and more about transformation. The goal was simple. Make the van feel fresh again while improving durability, usability and long-term protection.
Stripping Back to a Clean Starting Point
To begin the Mazda Bongo interior upgrade and underseal process, we removed the existing rock-and-roll bed to fully expose the rear floor area. This allowed us to assess the condition properly and prepare for a complete refresh.
Once stripped back, it was clear that the original carpet had reached the end of its life. Therefore, rather than patching or covering it, we started again with a clean slate to ensure the best possible finish.
Installing Durable Safety Flooring
With the rear fully prepped, we supplied and fitted new safety flooring along with all required hardware. This upgrade instantly changed the feel of the interior.
Not only does the new flooring look far cleaner, but it also provides a much more practical and hard-wearing surface. As a result, it is far better suited to day-to-day use, whether that is camping, travelling, or simply loading gear.
In addition, the improved grip and durability mean the van is now safer and easier to maintain.
Resolving Brake Issues the Right Way
While carrying out the Mazda Bongo interior upgrade and underseal, we also addressed an important mechanical issue. The van required new rear brake discs and pads, which we supplied and fitted.
However, during installation, we discovered that the brake callipers had seized. As a result, the newly fitted discs had already been compromised.
Rather than leaving the issue unresolved, we corrected the problem properly. This ensured the braking system now performs as it should, giving the owner confidence on every journey.
Protecting the Chassis with Full Underseal Treatment
With the mechanical work complete, attention turned to long-term protection. A full underbody underseal was carried out as part of this Mazda Bongo interior upgrade and underseal project.
First, we thoroughly rubbed down the chassis to remove surface corrosion and prepare the metalwork. Then, all suspension components were carefully painted black to restore their appearance and provide added protection.
Finally, the full underside was undersealed. As a result, the van now has a strong defensive layer against rust, moisture and road debris, helping to preserve its condition for years to come.
Upgrading the Driving Experience with Modern Tech
To bring the van up to modern standards, we supplied and fitted one of our media player systems. This upgrade completely transforms the driving experience.
The system includes Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity, movie playback and a reversing camera. Therefore, it not only adds convenience but also improves safety and usability.
As a result, the van now feels far more in line with modern vehicles while still retaining its classic Bongo character.
Adding Practical Extras for Everyday Use
Alongside the major upgrades, we also added a number of finishing touches that make a real difference.
We supplied and fitted a used Fiamma 45S awning complete with mounting brackets. This instantly expands the van’s usable space, making it perfect for outdoor use.
In addition, we included complimentary Mazda Bongo Auto Centre floor mats to complete the interior refresh. These small details help tie everything together and give the van a much more finished feel.
A Bongo Ready for the Road Again
By the end of this Mazda Bongo interior upgrade and underseal, the transformation was clear. What started as a tired and worn interior is now a clean, practical and well-protected camper.
