At Mazda Bongo Auto Centre, we take pride in reviving beloved vehicles and restoring them to their former glory. Recently, we had the pleasure of working on yet another cherished Mazda Bongo. This van came to us in need of some serious TLC, and our skilled team wasted no time getting to work. Below is a detailed account of the work we carried out to ensure this Bongo was ready for many more adventures.
Replacing the Inner and Outer Sills
The first major task was to address the inner and outer sills on both sides of the van. Over time, these components can become rusted and worn, compromising the structural integrity of the vehicle. We removed the old, corroded sills and replaced them with fresh new ones. This not only strengthened the Bongo but also improved its safety for the road ahead.
Restoring the Rear Wheel Arches
Next up, we focused on the rear wheel arches—both inner and outer. These parts had also fallen victim to rust and wear over time, which is common for older vehicles, especially Bongos. We carefully cut out the old, damaged sections and installed brand-new inner and outer wheel arches, restoring the van’s appearance and structure.
Rear Cross Member Corners Repaired
The rear cross member corners were in poor condition as well, requiring immediate attention. As part of our comprehensive restoration process, we replaced both corners to ensure that the van’s framework was sound. This step was crucial in maintaining the van’s durability and longevity.
Full Respray in Original Colours
A full respray was next on the list to give this Bongo a fresh new look. The customer wanted to keep the van true to its roots, so we resprayed it in its original factory colours. The fresh coat of paint breathed new life into the van, bringing back its original charm and making it look showroom-ready once again.
Full Underbody Underseal
To protect the van from future wear and tear, we applied a full underbody underseal. This essential step safeguards the vehicle against rust and corrosion, especially in the tough weather conditions it might face on the road. The underseal provides a strong protective layer, ensuring the longevity of the restoration work we carried out.
Rewiring the Split Charge System and Rear Electrics
The Bongo’s camper pod required a little extra attention in the electrical department. We completely rewired the split charge system and rear electrics, ensuring everything was functioning perfectly for the customer’s future camping trips. This ensures that the pod’s amenities—such as lighting, charging ports, and other electrical features—are reliable and safe.
Ready for the Road Again!
With all the major and minor repairs complete, the Bongo was ready to hit the road once again. From new sills to a pristine paint job, and from a full underbody underseal to rewired electrics, this beloved van had been fully restored and prepped for future adventures.
